Mario Kart

My girlfriend is getting married this weekend, Yay!  She asked me to make a groom's cake for the rehearsal dinner.  Her fiance loves to play Mario Kart.  I made him a race track :)

I made two chocolate cakes.  I frosted the whole thing in green.  I used my grass tip on top.  Tinted piping gel for the water.

Made some accents out of fondant.

I bought the figurines online.

Paul said it wasn't complete without Toadstool.  So he made him for the cake.

It was a big cake, hard to get a close up picture of it all.

It was super fun to make!
Thanks for looking and hope you all have a great weekend!

Jack turns 2!

Hello All!

My girlfriend's little boy turned 2.  He loves Thomas and she wanted cupcakes for the party.  I have never done a pull apart cake before and thought it would be a fun idea.

She wanted 30 cupcakes.  I didn't realize I would need such a big board.  I am very glad I tested it before I started making it.  I put chocolate on the outside and yellow on the inside.  Thought it would give it a little more uniform look.

It took so much frosting!  I used a whole batch of frosting just to cover all the cupcakes.

I then started piping.  Made tracks, grass and such.  It took longer than I thought, but am pleased with how it turned out :)

Thanks for looking!  Have a great day.

Dual birthdays

Hello All!

A girlfriend asked for a poker cake for her friend.  He loves to play cards.  I made a Poker table.
The cards and chips are made of fondant.

I finally bought an egg separator and loved using it! Don't have such a huge mess anymore :)
Put on some sprinkles on the bottom

Then, a friend's wife contacted me. She wanted pops for her husband. It was due the same day as the poker cake. I never do two cakes for one day, but decided to make an exception. The guy is our mechanic. He has always been so great to us and works on our vehicles with no notice, I thought it was the least I could do for him. He likes to fish, so we went with Fish and Bobber pops.
I used Hot Tamales for the tops of the bobbers

Hearts and candy eyes were also used

It looks like Christmas :)

I was to deliver to his work, so I arranged the pops in a bowl for him

All wrapped and ready to go!

Thanks for looking!  Have a great day.

Love the Pink

Hello All,

I had a request for a Zebra stripe baby shower cake.  She wanted pink and glitter on the cake.  I put a D on top for her last name

I brought out the Cricut Cake

It matches my KitchenAid :)

I rolled out my fondant and put on the mat to have it cut out my letter.

Then I sprinkled on some Disco Dust

Just like when you were a kid in arts and crafts...

It was a fun cake to make!

Thanks for looking!  Have a great day.

Spooktacular

This week I had an order for Halloween cookies.  I made sugar cookies with Royal Icing.

I started out with the sugar cookie.  I cut out my shapes with different cutters

The recipe I use is good with keeping the cookie shape once baked

I flooded the cookies with the base color the first night.  It is best to let the icing dry before piping on top so it doesn't blend together.

Here is a pic of the Frankensteins in progress.  You can see how it has to be done in steps

I call him Frankie because he is so cute :)

Pumpkins

Ghosts

I made two trays of cookies.

They were very fun to make!

Trick or Treat

I started a new facebook page for my food.  I had a giveaway once we hit 100 likes.  I was able to give a dozen cake pops away to a follower.  Super excited about that :)  I came across some Halloween Pops and decided to make them for the giveaway.

I saw these ghost pops on http://www.bakerella.com/  I get a lot of ideas from her site.  She comes up with the cutest ideas :)

I started with yellow cake crumbed in my mixing bowl

Added the frosting

I used Good and Plentys for the arms

Dipped in white candy melts and used a Sixlet for the pumpkin

All packaged and ready to go :)

I then made some Candy Corn Pops.  I first dipped in yellow melts

Then orange

White on top

I have edible food writers to make the faces

Paul likes to make his own creations every once in a while.  We call this one the Mean Humpty Dumpty :)

Hope you all have a great week!
Thanks for looking.

Autumn

A lady at my work wanted a cake to bring to her church festival this weekend.  She wanted a autumn/fall leaves cake.  I decided to make a tree with fall colors.

I made a yellow cake and frosted it with buttercream.  I use a crusting buttercream so I can smooth it.  This is the cake after I have iced with the spatula

This is the cake after I smoothed it with a Viva paper towel. Sure makes a difference :)

I mixed all my colors and got the bags ready for piping

I made a simple tree with some grass

The border is grass and leaves

I am hoping it will go well at her church and that they have a great festival :)

I hope you all have a great rest of the week :)
Thanks for looking.
